Agriculture has remained in headlines in all the ages. After a long spell of its backwardness and stagnation, it has made new strides in transforming latest technology, institutional and agraiarn reforms in the country. Proudly, it is claimed that is contributes to the national economy highly in term of production while it has opened new dimensions in other sectors of the economy as well. Thus, current challenges and threats need a fresh look in the context of changed environments, especially with the emergence of world trade organisation. The present volume is a comprehensive text book, not only focussing on the theoretical framework but unfolds in a systematic way the basic issues relating to its growth and problems in Indian agriculture. Certainly, it will provide a broader base to benefit the students not in a specific region rather to the students of almost all Indian universities at post graduate level. For this purpose, syllabi of many universities have been consulted in detail before structuring the contents of the book. However, content wise, the book has been divided broadly into three units. Unit-1 deals with the basic concepts of agricultural economics. Unit-2 makes an indepth analysis of various models of agricultural developments while Unit-3 has been devoted to the development problems of Indian agriculture. This part will specifically cater to the needs of candidates appearing in different all-Indiacompetitivee examinations. Every topic in the book has been developed to a resonable length so that students may get vivid and lucid understanding of the subject-matter. Thus, proper attention has been given to discuss various topics in a simple, systematic and comprehensive style. In the task of writing, the authors have frequently used the information, studies of numerous eminent scholars, various leading magazines and journals.
