Whereas surveying is the determination of relative positions of the objects, levelling determines the relative undulations between any two points and representing them by means if sections or contour plans. Although surveying includes levelling but the basic difference between the two is the determination of position of object on a horizontal and a vertical plane, while levelling includes operations connected with the representation of relative differences in elevation between points on the earth's surface.
