land husbandry and watershed management are proved to be viable and integral components of natural resource management systems all over the world. Written specifically to address the needs and concerns of the numerous students and workers of natural resource management, this book bridges the gap between the theoretical and practical for an up-to-date comprehensive text on all the related fields of watershed management with special emphasis to the tropics. # Watershed based approach to natural resource management is relatively new to India. Although it is perceived as a viable programme for ensuring the sustainability of rainfed areas, the technical backup for such a massive effort is miserably lacking. Watershed management is a multidiciplinary field involving the cooperation of experts from different spheres. However, these called experts may be experts only in their concerned area of specialization, and may not have much idea about other related fields of watershed management. For example, we have several agronomists, engineers, soil scientists, economists, and extensionists; but only very few watershed specialists.
